Yvonne Matthews, the founder of the gospel singing group – Nu Image and Youth On the Winning Side, former choral instructor and administrator at John L. LeFlore School of Communication and Arts, and administrator at Citronelle, Blount and Theodore, and Williamson High Schools, is also a member and retired minister of music at Nazaree Full Gospel Church in Mobile, Alabama. Yvonne’s life has been filled with music. From the age of three when she performed her first song in church, to the present, music has carried her from state to state, out of the country, college campuses, concert halls, parks, theaters, churches, and synagogues. Her classical training at the University of South Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in piano and a Master of Education degree, and her upbringing in church music (her father was a pianist, her mother – a songwriter) at Saint Joseph Baptist Church, have produced a musician who ventures into many genres of music and the theatrical arts.
Having traveled extensively throughout the United States and having toured Europe sharing her musical gifts, Yvonne’s debut album GLAD has brought her gospel music career greater visibility and more performance opportunities. The "Glad" music video garnered over 1 million views and her single, "I Owe You Me" music video garnered over 603,000 views on her Facebook artist page and thousands on her Official Yvonne Matthews Music YouTube channel. With this exposure and success, she has continued moving higher by releasing a Christmas EP YVONNE'S CHRISTMAS WISH FOR YOU in November 2020, and “churchy” CD CHURCH GIRL in November 2021. Three singles were released, the most recent: "Jehovah Shammah."
Yvonne was commissioned to write a stage production highlighting African-Americans' history in her home county, Mobile County Alabama. SOULS OF TIME debuted in March 2024 to almost two thousand and is returning to the big stage on January 17, 2025. Yvonne just completed a 5-song EP entitled NEVER ALONE. She will debut this project at SOULS OF TIME.
With all her projects being produced and engineered by Grammy and Stellar Award winner, Rogest “Rosco” Carstarphen, Jr. (Jonathan McReynolds, C. Ashley Brown-Lawrence, Doe), Yvonne’s music features the likes of Mobile’s own and American Idol contestant, Tyler N. Allen, and recording artist, the late C. Ashley Brown-Lawrence. Known for her Front Porch Ministry and spontaneous Pop up Praise moments on social media (like, follow, and subscribe), Yvonne shows that she loves what she has done for years: singing to and for the glory of God. Experience her God-given talent!
Yvonne enjoys “hitting the road” with her husband on their Goldwing motorcycle. She contributes all of her success to God and she is thankful for such a supportive family and team of supporters.
